Sorry I haven't posted anything in the last few days, but I'm in the midst of finals. I found an interesting post that I though I should share with the readers.

Mean Girls 2 (No I'm Serious)

Is Hollywood going on a rampage to destroy anything good in the industry because so far their on a roll. They basically compiled a list with everything I love and slowly eliminating it one by one. I don't understand the mindset of these producers who actually think that they'll benefit from this. The reason that I love cinema is because of two hours of escapism not two hours of trying to commit suicide.
FUCK YOU FOR WHO EVER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS PEICE OF SHIT!!

Official Plot Synopsis:
The story revolves around a new high school student, Jo, who agrees to befriend an outcast, Abby, at the urging of Abby’s wealthy father in exchange for paying all of Jo’s costs for the college of her dreams. Jo and Abby team up to take on the school’s “mean girls,” the Plastics. The story becomes a high stakes battle of loyalty that ultimately comes to a head when one of our heroines finds out that her friendship has been bought and paid for.

King's Speech Academy Screening and other possible winners

Steve Pond from the wrap reported that on Saturday night AMPAS members screened The King's Speech. To not anyone surprise, the Academy members loved it. He goes on to say, "The audience loved the film … It played as well as anything I have seen this year,” reported one Academy member who attended the screening at the 1,000-seat Samuel Goldwyn theater, which the member estimated was 85 percent full.

Another person in attendance said that the credits brought “lots of applause” for director Hooper and stars Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter, Guy Pearce and others, plus “solid applause for the writer, cinematographer, costumes, all down the line.” And when the full cast scroll appeared onscreen, a second round of applause started up.

The turnout appears to be about the same as the attendance for “The Social Network,” which also drew a strong reaction when it screened at the Goldwyn in early October. Members who attended that screening told me that the film was very well received, albeit with some disclaimers that the characters weren’t likeable enough for the film to win."

Now you can look at this news from two perspectives, firstly The King's Speech has the best picture race in the bag. Or secondly you can take this news lightly as the academy screeners aren't always reliable. At this early in the race the frontrunners has been narrowed down to The Social Network and The King's Speech. But I still remain skeptical on how well either film will do at Oscars. I still have this feeling that another film will emerge and ultimately grab the best picture. What other films can you possibly see winning best picture?

The fighter -- Academy loves boxing movies from Rocky to Million Dollar Baby. Majority of the earlier reviews all seem to be wowed by the film. So don't underestimate this film.

Toy Story 3 --- Recently the head of Disney just announced that they will be throwing this film an all out campaign. Not for best animated film but for best picture. He made some good points as it is currently the highest grossing film of the year and the best reviewed. So don't be surprised if this film does make a close run for best picture, and ultimately wins.

True Grit -- At this point of the race this is a film that no one has seen yet, and many Oscar pundits are already predicting it as a major contender. It has the Coen Brothers directing it, Steven Speilberg and Scott Rudin producing the film and an ensemble cast. This film should not be ignored because of the many talented people involved.

Inception -- this is a film that everyone expects to be nominated but highly doubts that the film will win. But I believe otherwise, this is an original summer blockbuster that had a studio that took a chance on it. In the age of Hollywood where lack of original ideas and studio support, inception breaks that mold. Inception was a blockbuster hit that made over $800 million worldwide without 3D. Inception has a well-known cast and crew more than any other films likely to be nominated. And a director whose last film changed the academy best picture and many considers him overdue. Inception will be a huge competitor and quite possibly gain momentum and win the Oscar.

What other films can you see winning the Oscars other than the social network or the king's speech?

Darren Aronofsky on why he's making The Wolverine

A few weeks ago Darren Aronofsky announced that he'll be helming the wolverine franchise, many were baffled by his decision. But I was faithful from the start, but this video only confirms it.

Oscar Race --- Best Picture

Last year was the first time since 1944 the academy allowed ten best pictures to be nominated. The dark knight was the main reason for the change, the film was critically acclaimed and was a gigantic hit. The bias against superheroes films and sequels prevented it from getting nominated. The Academy then decided to expanded the best picture nominee from five to ten to allow diversity such as; blockbuster, action film, indie film, etc. The last few years the academy has been drifting away from the mass as film that were nominated weren't being seen by the majority of the public. In my opinion last year Academy Awards were the best in years as film you didn't expect got nominated and created this bigger feel for the award show. Also it's nice to see some blockbusters and low budget films in the mix. This year the academy decided to continue with it's new tradition. Many of the oscar pundit have come to the conclusion that there are nine safe bets and one wild card. I, however don't agree and believe that they are only 5 safe bets.

The Social Network: This film was praised to high heaven as critics have been worshipping this film ever since the release. The last decade the academy winners are usually dark films which themes are similar to the "moment". The Social Network perfectly fits that category. This film accurately defined this decade as it showed the growth of global communication (Facebook), the back stabbing, the court cases, etc. The film has an overdue director behind it, David Fincher, and a script that many considers as one of the best written in the last few years.

The King's Speech: Many claim that this is Colin Firth's award to lose. Which only furthers the film chances at winning best picture. This film has characters that are applauded by the audience, unlike the Social Network. It has won many people's choice awards, so if this film picks up momentum than I can't see anything stopping it from the finish line.

Inception: The biggest film of the year luckily to be nominated. It was the film that was talked about for months after it release. It has an ensemble cast, and an overdue director that hasn't been nominated yet. Also majority of the reviews were positive, the only struggle this film has to overcome is the backlash.

Toy Story 3: This film has the biggest box office and is the best reviewed film of the year. The only problem is can it overcome it's bias against animation to win the ultimately prize.

127 Hours: So far I heard nothing but raves. Many claims it's Danny Boyle best film and James Franco best performance, but will the Sags support a one man show.

This is the five films that I see nominated without a doubt, as the other five are uncertain at this point. Later will discuss the other five films.
